With summer in the Northern Hemisphere around the corner, and just weeks away from the mega-jewelry trade fairs in Las Vegas and Hong Kong, JCK Las Vegas and the June Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Show, two other important shows will take place in May, in Antwerp, Belgium, and Kobe, Japan. MID House of Diamonds will have a prominent presence at both events.

CARAT+, which will take place in Antwerp from May 6 through May 8, is the second edition of the Belgian trade fair that has been billed at the primary international show dedicated exclusively to the loose diamond and diamond jewelry trades.

According to its organizer, Artexis Easyfairs, during the premiere edition of CARAT+ last year, some 2,927 industry professionals from 29 countries visited the event, with entry restricted only to members of the trade. Some 116 companies from 13 countries exhibited loose diamonds, branded and non-branded diamond jewelry, as well as offering diamonds and diamond jewelry industry-related services. This year the numbers are expected to grow.

An evening event during the first edition of CARAT+ was electrified by the presence of Italian actress Caterina Murino, who played the sultry Solange Dimitrios in the 2006 spy thriller Casino Royale, becoming the 71st member of the Bond Girl Club. This year the organizers hope to repeat the excitement, with the celebrity guest being Elizabeth Hurley, the renowned British actress and model.

Considered Japan’s most important mid-year jewelry show and the country’s second largest jewelry event after the January fair in Tokyo, the International Jewellery Kobe (IJK) show will take place this year for the 22nd time, from May 16 through May 18. It is organized by Reed Exhibitions Japan.
