MID TO SALUTE UK DIAMOND MARKET AT IJL SHOW IN LONDON

In the diamond business, London has always punched above its weight. Long associated with De Beers’ Diamond Trading Company and international rough diamond supply, it also is the global headquarters of Christie’s and Sotheby’s, the jewelry sector’s two dominant auction houses, serves the trade through its Hatton Garden jewelry district, and in the plush shopping area of New Bond Street concentrates many of the world’s most prestigious jewelry brands.

As a jewelry market, the United Kingdom is a force in its own right.  With the world’s sixth largest economy and a jewelry tradition that stretches back beyond the reign of Elizabeth I, its close to 4,000 jewelry retail outlets nationwide register annual sales of jewelry and watches worth in the region of $6.5 billion per annum. Furthermore, its watch and jewelry market was forecast to grow by 13.1 percent between 2016 to 2021, outpacing the 10.2 percent growth in the preceding five-year period.

Each September, jewelers from around the world gather at International Jewellery London (IJL), the United Kingdom’s’ leading trade event for the international jewelry industry. Showcasing the latest product ranges from more than 550 high-end, finished jewelry manufacturers and designers, as well as diamond, loose gemstones and retail services suppliers, IJL attracts a wide range of professional buyers from 64 countries and representatives from London’s legendary consumer and trade press.

The show is organized by Reed Exhibitions, which also has in its stable the JCK and Luxury shows in Las Vegas, and is sponsored by Britain’s National Association of Jewellers (NAJ).

This year’s IJL show will take place at the Olympia london, on Hammersmith Road in Kensington from Sunday, September 3, through Tuesday, September 5. MID House of Diamonds will be among the largest diamond suppliers represented, with its booth located at C90 on the main floor of the show.
